After acquiring a series of hydroelectric generating stations in the United States, H2O Power wanted a new website to show off its growing network of assets and present a stronger face to the public. The Canadian public company also wanted to integrate a large volume of pages from its subsidiary’s old website. As a temporary solution, we migrated all content to a WordPress CMS to meet the company’s immediate needs. Then we began redesigning the entire website, including a restructuring to better reflect the new corporate structure, communicate with the public and attract investors.
PUTTING SAFETY FIRST
H2O Power takes safety very seriously, so every employee must pass a safety test to be eligible to work on one of the company’s sites. To streamline this process, we redesigned and developed an online portal where employees can sign up, access learning material, test their knowledge and generate a certificate to prove their understanding of H2O’s safety rules and guidelines.
GOING WITH THE FLOW
For a content-rich website like H2O Power’s, it took a lot of testing and refining to ensure the mobile user experience would function smoothly. The high number of HTML templates and customized elements put our responsive design skills to the test, forcing us to rewrite many of the rules of the WordPress theme.
